Consolidated Government Won't Lower Taxes
Consolidation of local governments to reduce taxes sounds good, but we need to remember that bigger government is not necessarily better government. Just look at state government.
New Jersey has only one state government. You can't get more consolidated than that, yet state spending and taxes continue to climb.
It's not enough to consolidate local governments. The people who would run these consolidated governments must be committed to spending control. Otherwise New Jersey will end up with fewer local governments and larger total tax bills.
