Huge New Government Power Grab = 'Keeping Things the Same'
It has done so with absolutely zero Network Neutrality regulations. There have never, ever been any such regulations actually in place.
If ever there were a definition of “unnecessary” - Net Neutrality regs is it.
Yet the Left has histrionically insisted for more than a decade that without such regs – the Internet as we enjoy it would simply cease to be.
The Left has perversely framed this huge new government power grab as “Internet freedom” - as ensuring a “free” and “open Internet.”
Because when I hear “free” and “open” - I think more government.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has twice imposed Net Neutrality regs – and twice the DC Circuit Court has unanimously thrown the FCC out on its ear.
Has that stopped the government? Of course not.
Only that’s now no longer enough for the Left.
What is Reclassification?
“Reclassification” means unilaterally shoving the Web out from under the existing light-touch Title I rules the 1996 Telecommunications Act placed upon it …and then slamming it into the Title II heavy-regulatory uber-structure that has for the last seventy-plus years crushed with regs and taxes landline telephones – that well-known bastion of technological and economic innovation.
Does the FCC have the authority to Reclassify? Of course not. They don’t even have the authority to impose Net Neutrality. But this is the Barack Obama Administration - when has not having the authority ever stopped them?
Shocker – the FCC is seriously considering unauthorized Reclassification.
Meanwhile, the Left has moved the power grab bar. Once upon a time lack of Net Neutrality was the “end of the Internet.” Now Net Neutrality without full-on Reclassification is.
And now – behold the Left’s most ridiculous assertion of all. They claim that this most gi-normous of new power grabs – Reclassification so as to then impose Net Neutrality – is somehow about keeping the Internet exactly as it has always been.
When we all know the Internet has always been classified as it currently is. Always without any Net Neutrality regs whatsoever.
Which, again, is why the Web has become so unbelievably amazing.
Of course the Left never allows the facts to get in the way of a good beating.
