New book from The Heartland Institute demolishes claims of a “scientific consensus” on climate change.
“The most important fact about climate science, often overlooked, is that scientists disagree about the environmental impacts of the combustion of fossil fuels on the global climate. There is no survey or study showing 'consensus' on the most important scientific issues, despite frequent claims by advocates to the contrary.”
So says the latest book from The Heartland Institute on climate change, Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming. Published in December 2015 and written by three distinguished climate scientists, the book demolishes claims of a “scientific consensus” that climate change is either man-made or dangerous. The 120-page book is based on a chapter in the upcoming final volume of the Climate Change Reconsidered series produced by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) and published by The Heartland Institute.

About Heartland's Work on the Climate
The Heartland Institute is "the world’s most prominent think tank promoting skepticism about man-made climate change.”
— The Economist, May 26, 2012
The Heartland Institute is a 32-year-old national nonprofit organization devoted to discovering, developing, and promoting free-market solutions to social and economic problems. Heartland’s Center on Climate and Environmental Policy promotes pro-environment policies based on sound science and economics, not alarmism or ideology. Our strong stand against the politicization of science on matters of public health and the environment have earned us the enmity of many liberal public health and environmental groups and their allies in the mainstream media.
In 2012, The Economist called Heartland “the world’s most prominent think tank supporting skepticism about man-made climate change.” The New York Times called us “the primary American organization pushing climate change skepticism.” We also address other environmental issues including renewable portfolio standards (RPS), clean air standards, smart drilling and hydraulic fracturing, sustainable development, food safety, and more.
Through events, publications, social media, and government relations programs we have changed public opinion on climate change and other environmental topics, and consequently helped change public policy not only in the U.S. but in other countries as well. Our views on climate change and energy are well summarized in these three documents:
In 2015, we . . .
■ Defended and recognized Dr. Willie Soon and other brave scientists who challenge unscientific claims that global warming is a crisis.”
■ Published, distributed, and promoted parts of the third volume in the most important series of books on global warming: Climate Change Reconsidered II: Benefits and Costs of Fossil Fuels.
■ Hosted in June the largest gathering of global warming “skeptics” in the world, the Tenth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-10) in Washington, DC.
■ Published monthly the most influential publication on environmental issues sent to every national and state elected official, Environment & Climate News.
■ Produced more than a dozen other books, booklets, policy studies — including the Top 10 Global Warming Lies and a NAS's Sustainability: Higher Education’s New Fundamentalism, and sent them to tens of thousands of the most influential people in the world.
■ Distributed more than 150,000 copies of our “Global Warming: Crisis or Delusion?” flier and poster.
■ Conducted a comprehensive communications and marketing campaign — including online and social media, public speakers, exhibiting, direct mail, and more — to confront “junk science” and oppose unnecessary regulations and government spending.
■ Worked with allies in other countries to oppose global warming alarmism around the world.
Heartland's Trip to Paris for COP-21
One of the most important battles in the history of the global warming debate was fought November 30 - December 12, 2015 at a United Nations climate conference in Paris known as COP-21, or the twenty-first "Conference of the Parties." And The Heartland Institute was there!
The UN attempted to impose binding carbon dioxide restrictions on the United States and transfer billions of dollars of climate "reparations" from the United States to corrupt third-world dictatorships like the Maldives and Zimbabwe. They failed, coming to terms on an agreement with zero legal standing and no binding obligations.
The Heartland Institute worked with other leading think tanks and advocacy groups — such as the Cooler Heads Coalition, Heritage Foundation, CFACT, Competitive Enterprise Institute, NIPCC and allied groups in Europe. Our voice was heard, and it ensured that energy consumers and taxpyers were represented on the ground in Paris — and that sound science and economics was part of the global discussion.
We call December 12, 2015 VGW Day — Victory over Global Warming Day! See everything we did in Paris for COP-21 at this link.
Heartland's Trip to Rome in April 2015
On April 28, 2014, the Vatican held a one-day climate summit with the United Nations featuring some of the most radical environmental activists in the world. They were there to give Pope Francis a one-sided, alarmist view of climate science in hopes of influencing his highly anticipated encyclical on the environment.
The Heartland Institute traveled to Rome to give Pope Francis the full story on the climate, including a look at the latest data showing human activity is not causing a climate crisis. We didn't want Pope Francis to make the mistake of putting his enormous moral authority behind junk science and policies that would make the plight of the world’s poor even worse.
The trip was an enormous success, gaining massive international media attention. More importantly, our voice was heard inside the walls of the Vatican.
