The Long Menu of the Law

The jury in a Virgin Islands murder trial gave the judge a set of demands to start off the trial: double the usual jury stipend and “a list of foods they deem necessary to survive.” The food demanded includes “turkey bacon, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, Subway sandwiches,” and dozens of other items. The judge dismissed one juror who said “the food choices would affect her ability to render a verdict.”

“Has the world gone mad?” asked a Virgin Islands columnist.

There was no word on whether the other jurors are getting their menu choices.
