Please Remit. Love, Mom
A British Columbia man is being sued for support by the mother who abandoned him as a teenager. The suit has dragged on for 11 years.
A provincial law allows parents to sue their adult children for support if parents are dependent due to “age, illness, infirmity or economic circumstances.” The mother, 73, wants $750 per month from her son, who is 47.
The son says his parents and another sibling left him behind when the rest of the family moved. He lived with other families, quit school, and went to work. He is now married and has two sons.
“We don’t have a relationship,” he said. “I haven’t talked to her in years and years and years. She’s just out to make our life miserable.”
