County Executive Group Requests $122 Million Stimulus for Bronx Wi-Fi

Claiming all U.S. citizens have the right to affordable broadband access, the County Executives of America (CEA) applied for $122 million of federal stimulus monies to implement municipal wi-fi services in the Bronx. A national association lobbying federal and state governments to assist elected county executives with economic and social development plans, CEA applied for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant this past July.

The group filed a similar $95.2 million application for free broadband service in Illinois’ Cook and Will counties in April.

Acceptance of both applications is contingent upon the Federal Communications Commission’s approval of wi-fi bandwidth.
